What Trump’s latest executive order actually means for the protestors at Standing Rock and the building of the pipeline

This would be a huge blow for the people who fought for more than seven years against the project, a transnational pipeline that would extend from Canada to the Gulf Coast. The venture was killed by President Obama in 2015 because it would contribute to climate change and deter American efforts to reach a global deal addressing this issue.

Trump

In an ABC interview, Trump says we should have kept Iraq’s oil after invading, violating international law, but “Maybe we’ll have another chance.” Holy fucking shit.

New executive orders suspend immigration (including refugees) from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen. The orders authorize local police to become immigration officers and the White House will publish a weekly list of crimes committed by undocumented immigrants.

Trump says construction of border wall to begin “in months”; Mexico will “absolutely” reimburse the U.S. Paul Ryan says Congress will front the money and get Mexico to pay it back later.

Mexican President: We Won’t Pay for a Wall

Undocumented Mexican border crossings have reached a 40-year low

Trump has called for a major investigation into voter fraud. His reasoning for this crackdown? A German professional golfer he knows saw some Latinos in a voting line in Florida. Paul Ryan is fine with that investigation despite the total lack of evidence.

Forthcoming executive orders follow through on Trump’s promise to defund the UN:

The
Trump administration is preparing executive orders that would clear the
way to drastically reduce the United States’ role in the United Nations
and other international organizations, as well as begin a process to
review and potentially abrogate certain forms of multilateral treaties.

Other Fascist Nonsense

Data from the EPA must now be reviewed by political appointees before publication.

After yesterday’s gag order on public communications, at least 14 federal agencies’ employees have started anonymous, rogue Twitter accounts. NASA has published all the research it funded, for free.

Scientists are now planning to run for office.

I am 1,000% for the found-family trope,  but keeping up the constant mistrust between found-family members to milk the drama out of it is annoying.

I’ve had White Collar going as background noise, and while I love the relationship between Peter and Neal, the constant ‘doing X behind Y’s back because REASONS’ is so tiring.

Even as background noise, I find it difficult.

Last December we scored a significant victory when the Army Corp of Engineers halted construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline. Tumblr and I did an Answer Time about it. Following Trump’s latest reckless decision to allow construction, now is the time to stick together and show up for our fellow Indigenous people.

yay! Not just me! There really was a point there where Neal’s “you know what? fuck it. and you!” was absolutely legitimate. As much as I love my OT3… it was a flaw in the writing

For sure! And both of them with the constant willingness to believe the worst when they’ve both done the WAY above and beyond for each other at this point (I am on season 4).
