hey! thank you to everyone who’s taking a chance on me here. this will be my first roundup of the lovely fic I’ve been reading lately. please let me know if you have any suggestions for how I can do this or if any of the links are broken!

summary: “This isn’t about the beginning. This is about the bullet that slices through Steve Rogers’s heart, neat and clean, and leaves him for dead in the dust. This is about the gun that suddenly feels cold, colder, in Tony’s hand as he lunges to his feet and lurches forward, screaming and screaming. Or, Steve and Tony meet again in the afterlife.”
my comments: this is such a lovely, heart-wrenching fic! it’s set in the 1872 comics verse, but if you haven’t read that all you really need to know is that there’s an alternate universe where Steve and Tony are cowboys, and this is a reincarnation fic of that verse. it’s angsty but it’s got such a lovely ending, I highly recommend it!

my comments: NSFW. somehow I hadn’t previously worked my way through all of goodmorningbeloved’s Ao3 fics, something I got to rectify this week. this is a newer fic, and a really lovely twist on the traditional way fic tends to portray alpha/omega dynamics - both in the reversal of traditional top/bottom roles, and the way tony, the alpha, is depicted as acting during his rut. it’s very soft and heartening and I really adored this fic!

my comments: WIP, NSFW. this is a fic that’s going to be eating at my brain until the last two chapters are posted. it’s the first of a three parter, and if you don’t want pain - aka you want to wait and read it after it’s all posted - I definitely recommend at least bookmarking it so you don’t forget! the writing, as always, is gorgeous and the plot is so lovely. I’m so excited to see where it goes next!
In Our Bedroom, After the War by @royal-chandler
summary: “It’s not to say that Steve had ever anticipated the culling of half the universe or its aftermath. No, that’s well beyond the edges of any damnation he could have imagined. However, when he touches himself in the new world and can’t find completion, he’s stolen by surprise, and then anger, that this too has been taken away.”
my comments: NSFW. WOW royal_chandler really came for my fucking heart with this one. this is such a heart-wrenching depiction of what post-infinity war steve and tony might be like, and it’s so lovely that when I sat down to write this comment for this post I just had to go back and read it again. and the ENDING. not going to spoil it, but, DAMN. my heart.

summary: “Steve blinked at him. “I have no idea what’s happening right now.” Tony leaned a hip against the wall, crossed his arms, and stretched his grin wider, his eyes lighting up. “And isn’t it great?”
my comments: this. is. so. AMAZING. such an interesting canon divergence, the likes of which I have never seen before and I have read a lot of fic, so! that’s really saying something. steve and tony are so soft and lovely as they are depicted in this, and I just really adore this fic! god bless festiveferret, blessing us all for their birthday. a true saint.

my comments: oof, my heart. so lovely and angsty - my poor tony! a great piece of tony whump, with some cacw/infinity war aftermath thrown in.

summary: “Steve comes home from a trip to find his boyfriend in bed with nothing but a t-shirt on. His t-shirt, at that.”
my comments: NSFW. clothes sharing = my favorite thing, and this is such an adorable fic of just that. also, sexy times. established relationship softness at it’s finest.
Women’s Troubles by Wikketkrikket
summary: “Earth-3490. Being held captive in Afghanistan would have been bad enough, but without any access to the pill or sanitary products, it was hell. And maybe Natasha Stark should have admitted to someone sooner that she was struggling to deal with her periods even now, because anything would be better than this- sending Captain America out to buy your tampons.”
my comments: i’m not going to lie, I wasn’t expecting to like this but found I really did! it’s Earth 3490 verse, which means female Tony by the name of Natasha Stark. it’s a really fascinating look at how Tony’s psyche could have been damaged differently if he was a woman who was captured, without going to darkest route possible. I love the description and the POV of Steve in this fic, it feels very real, and the way this author writes Tony (in any of her fics, not just when he’s a woman) is very vulnerable and human, which is a very interesting take to read.
Bubble Tea by Wikketkrikket
summary: “After a record stint in the lab, Tony is craving Bubble Tea. Unfortunately, getting hold of it might not be as easy as he anticipates, and getting home again? Even harder. It’s lucky, then, that Steve is passing by.”
my comments: clearly I just started working through this author’s fics once I read that first one, and wow! extremely talented. this is a lovely little one shot with a sort of vulnerable Tony whose pride is still holding him back. it’s a really unique and interesting take on his and Steve’s budding relationship that I haven’t seen anywhere else.
