you wanna see some badass shit from the early 20th century?? The Lumière brothers created the first full color photograph… in fucking 1903! So these dudes dyed potatoes (in red, blue, and green), mashed them down into just pure fuckin’ starch, and used these dyed potato starches as filters to block out/let in certain wavelengths of light. They coated one side of a glass plate with the starches and sensitized the other side with a mixture of gelatin and light sensitive materials (silver nitrate) and loaded these plates in their cameras.. This is a really simple explanation of the process and I may have missed some thingsA few of my favorite autochrome photos:

Feather Sculptures by Kate MccGwire

okay, looks like I’ve discovered my aesthetic

O.o

My gods… those are amazing. How does she get such an amazing smoothness with them?

Birds are SEVERELY underrepresented as a horror movie animal kingdom. Now if we were designing one of those Möbius strip looking things as some eldritch monster, we’d cover it in slime. Look how scary feathers can be.

They fall right into that “horror of the unnatural” thing from earlier.

Angels. That’s all I’m going to say. Let’s get this artist to design an angel. Then you’d see how fucking terrifying these things are.

ufo-the-truth-is-out-there:

A star created 1,800 years ago after the collision of two distant suns is set to appear in the night sky for the first time – as the light from the crash finally reaches the Earth.

Scientists predict that for six months in 2022, stargazers will be able to witness the birth of the new star, by fixing their telescopes near the Pisces and Cygnus constellations. Dubbed the Boom Star, it has taken nearly two millennia for its light to reach earth — where it will be able to be seen by the naked eye. Astronomers expect the collision to increase the brightness of the pair ten thousand fold, making it one of the brightest stars in the heaven for a time. The explosion, known as a Red Nova, will then dissipate and the star will remain visible in our skies as a single bright, but duller, dot.

You’re not going to want to miss this appear in our sky as it’s a once in a lifetime event!     More here and here and here

Hyperrealism and 3D Art by Marcello Barenghi

Marcello Barenghi (born in 1969) is an Italian illustrator and graphic designer based in Milan.

I have been called “The hyper-realist artist of the common things in the era of YouTube”, Potentially I am fascinated by everything, I am used to look at an object taking into account its reflections, the lights, the shadows, its colors and shape. Every single object has its own beauty, also an empty bag of potato chips. I like to decontextualize and make protagonists branded products and objects that accompany us in our daily lives, sometimes from childhood and throughout our life.
