I am reading some of my (very) old work, and I’m surprised by how not-bad it is, and also realizing that I’ve picked up some bad habits. My story-telling has improved, certainly, but I feel that I’ve gotten lazy with my technical skills in comparison. It’s a very interesting experience.

My dad’s bone cancer has settled very badly in his hips. He’s going in on Monday for radiation therapy.

I’m worried because he lives alone and he doesn’t want me to come down to take him to his appointment. He thinks driving 90 minutes to and back on his own after being irradiated is okay.

I haven’t gotten the official HR offer letter yet, so I’m not going to jump up and down until then, but tentatively - I got a job!

The job is author wrangler. No, seriously, the job is to coordinate authors to writing projects and assist them in meeting deadlines.

This is an interesting career choice. I would probably not be more stunned if I had taken on a position herding cats out of sunlit perches.

FYI, I’m going to be traveling for the next couple weeks, to visit family. I should be back by the first week of June!

I somehow managed to get a 96% on my biology exam, when I walked out of the test thinking “low B at best” ? I am so stunned.

Theoretically, I have finished my essay, but it has been over a decade since I’ve written in MLA and I’ve gotten so used to APA that all of the citations look horrendously wrong. -_-

I am 97% finished with my essay and have 0% interest in completing it.

The worst thing about grief is the way it tricks you into hurting yourself

For a moment, you forget:

You say something

Do something

Think about something you used to share with her

Only to realize too late that she’s not there to share it anymore.

The worst thing about grief is that you are forever one half of a secret handshake.

My flight that was supposed to be leaving at 9:30 this morning (for which I had to wake up at 5:30 because driving, yay) is now leaving (allegedly) at 4:15 after they just shuttle us up a new plane from Las Vegas.

But hey, they gave us complimentary 8oz bottles of water for our trouble.

Joy.

I know everyone has gotten used to me posting a writing update every week and I’ve missed the last two weeks. I’ll probably miss the upcoming week as well.

My mother passed away last Thursday. It was a miserable death and I am stressed out and grieving and trying to figure out how to plan a memorial. I’m doing my best to keep up on writing, but I haven’t managed much except some editing to existing stories. I’ll post the edits when I’m satisfied with them.

I will get back to writing as soon as I am able. In the meantime, the queue will probably be taking over a lot of my posting.

Thank you.

People are being so generous with AO3 comments this week?? I am… thoroughly overwhelmed right now (in a good way).

Individuals.

Today I went on a writing spree and finished about 7ish thousand words before my body insisted that it was the to get up for a bit. (And I still feel like I can write more)

I watched IM1 with the subtitles on, which was an amazing thing. I love that there are still things that are new even though I’ve seen it 1357543 times.

AND I got TWO lovely comments on AO3.

Also, my cat has been very demanding of my attention and thew a hissy fit when I couldn’t find his mouse.

He has now squeezed himself into a hammock that he hasn’t fit into since he was kitten.

Good day.
