Philadelphia’s new pride flag honors LGBTQ people of color

follow @the-movemnt

Honestly I think this is awesome, symbols should be as dynamic as the needs of our communities, we should not be afraid to change them whenever we feel it is needed.

And while this is symbolic and doesn’t immediately translate to real change, the messages it sends, both “POC are Here” and “Racists not welcome” are important.

All the white people flipping out about this because they think it’s not beautiful or not traditional or not a rainbow as it appears in nature are showing how used they are to a sheltered condition of not having to seriously consider the needs of people of color, because they think an esthetic matters more than the question of whether this is an effective way to adress a real issue. How did we get to a point where that level of apathy is normal?

So I support this. Heck, I’d support it if we wrote ‘RACISTS FUCK OFF’ in large print on every single pride flag until the day when we didn’t have a single racist left in our communities. That would be worth changing all our symbols for.

I work at a kindergarten and this is a collection of cute Wonder Woman related things that happened within a week of the movie being released.

On Monday, a boy who was obsessed with Iron Man, told me he had asked his parents for a new Wonder Woman lunchbox.

A little girl said “When I grow up I want to speak hundreds of languages like Diana”

This girl had her parents revamp her Beauty and the Beast birthday party in THREE DAYS because she simply had to have a Wonder Woman party.

Seven girls playing together during recess on Tuesday, saying that since they all wanted to be Wonder Woman they had agreed to be Amazons and not fight but work together to defeat evil.

There is this one girl that refuses to listen to you unless you address her as Wonder Woman.

Another girl very seriously asked the teacher if she could ditch her uniform for the Wonder Woman armor bc she “wanted to be ready if she needed to save the world”. The teacher laughed and said it was okay, and the next day the girl came dressed as Wonder Woman and not a single kid batted an eye.

They are making a wrap-up dance show, and they asked the teacher if they could come as superheroes, they are going to sing a song about bunnies.

This kid got angry and threw a plastic car over his head and a girl gasped “LIKE IN THE MOVIE”

A boy threw his candy wrapping in the floor and a 5-year-old girl screamed “DON’T POLLUTE YOU IDIOT, THAT IS WHY THERE ARE NO MEN IN TEMYSCIRA”

On Wednesday, a girl came with a printed list of every single female superhero and her powers, to avoid any trouble when deciding roles at recess.

I was talking to one of the girls that hadn’t seen the movie, and the next day she came and very seriously told me “you were right, Wonder Woman was way better than Frozen.”

Consider this your friendly reminder that if this movie completely changed the way these girls and boys thought about themselves and the world in a week, imagine what the next generation will achieve if we give them more movies like Wonder Woman.

via http://ift.tt/2rjwYSp:Poll: Ossoff leads Handel 51-44 in Georgia:

From 7 to 1 to 2…  & now back to 7?  –  Who knows ??

With polls bouncing all over the graph for the past month, Ossoff is back up to a 7 percent lead with 5 percent undecided in the latest poll. Two weeks ago that edge was only 1 percent, so the increase is awesome, but it’s still not one we should take for granted. If you have friends who live in Georgia’s 6th congressional district on Atlanta’s north side, perhaps you should get in touch in the next week. Early voting ends on Friday the 16th and every single vote may be needed for victory.

🇺🇸   VOTE your OSSOFF on JUNE 20th!   🇺🇸

NASA plans to fill the sky with colorful, artificial clouds

Later in June, people in the U.S. mid-Atlantic region will likely be treated to a unique early-morning sight: colorful artificial clouds, thanks to NASA.

The blue-green and red clouds will be produced by the launch of a Terrier Improved Malemute sounding rocket carrying 10 canisters, which will be deployed approximately five minutes after the launch.

These canisters will release the colorful vapor trail, which allow NASA’s scientists to track how particles move in space and learn more about upper atmospheric winds.

Though vapor tracers have been used by scientists in the past, the multi-canister ampoule ejection system onboard this mission will allow scientists to cover a much larger area than previous tests, the NASA website notes. Read more (6/5/17)

NASA will blast colorful clouds into the sky Monday night — here’s how to watch

Get ready for a show. NASA’s launching a rocket Monday night that will leave a trail of colorful, fake clouds looming over the East Coast.

The clouds, which will possibly take over skies from New York to California, will also be visible from a live broadcast from NASA starting at 8:30 p.m. Eastern.

Skies will be painted glowing blue-green and red colors by a sounding rocket, which will release 10 soda can-sized canisters into the air to form the clouds.

The rocket will launch from the Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia sometime between 9:04 and 9:19 p.m. Eastern, if all goes as planned, and the flight will last just eight minutes. Read more (6/12/17)
